Throwback Thursday meme is hosted by Renee@It’s Book Talk and is a way to share some of your old favourites as well as sharing books that you want to read that were published over a year ago. You know, the ones waiting patiently on your TBR list while you continue to pile more titles on top of them These older books are usually much easier than new releases to get a hold of at libraries and elsewhere. If you have your own Throwback Thursday recommendation feel free to jump on board, you’re welcome to use Renee’s pic as well. If you’d just link back to her @ It’s Book Talk she’d so appreciate it.
Today I’m showcasing a book that I read a few years ago and loved!
Refuge of the Heart
Ruth Logan Herne
REFUGE OF THE HEART is an inspirational and very emotional story about two refugees, Lena and Anna who teach us what faith and courage is all about. They don’t let fear stop them and right from the very first page, you will be cheering for both of them and praying that they get to their happily ever after place. Ruth Logan Herne pulls her readers in from the first chapter and never lets them go. Ruth also breaks the readers hearts, shreds them, and then, hands them back all put back together again. She also teaches them about compassion and God’s love. I read this heart tugging story in one sitting and loved every minute of it.
Lena and her little sister Anna are refugees from Chechnya who are sponsored by an American church and are looking for a better life. The war in their home country has killed the rest of their family and while they are struggling, they also know that even though they suffered great loss, life is better in America. They take nothing for granted. REFUGE OF THE HEART starts with Anna and Lena leaving the store and realizing they have a flat tire. Along comes Mitchell Sanderson to the rescue. He arranges for Lena to get a new tire and buys the ladies lunch while they are waiting. Mitch is instantly attracted to Lena and wants to get to know her more, but Lena is not forthcoming with information about herself and knows that if Mitch knew who she really is, he wouldn’t give her the time of day. Mitch’s heart quickly lets Anna in and all he wants to do is help them.
REFUGE OF THE HEART has many twists and turns and while Mitch thinks he is rescuing Lena and Anna it just might be that they are rescuing him. Mitch is still reeling from a tragic loss and has closed off his heart to everyone. He is a district attorney and he is barely living. He has lost all his faith in God while Lena embraces her faith and never hesitates to help others. Mitch is nothing but work work work……..until he meets Lena and Anna. They say opposites attract and nothing could be truer with Mitch and Lena. Be prepared for your emotions to be all over the place while reading this well researched novel by my new favorite author, Ruth Logan Herne who just so happens to live in my neck of the woods. The challenges that all three of these people face will have you unable to put REFUGE OF THE HEART down until the very last page.
District Attorney Mitchell Sanderson wanted for nothing and lost everything in a tragic accident. A dogged worker, Mitch’s conviction rate earned him respect and trust. Now up for re-election, Mitch’s law-and-order persona makes him a shoo-in candidate. But when faith, conscience and love of a troubled refugee ripple the smooth waters of his existence, can Mitch risk everything for love?
Magdalena Serida fought her way out of the terrors of a government-quelled insurgent uprising in Chechnya. The church-sponsored refugee knows the horrors of war first-hand. Now in America with her five-year-old sister, Lena is uncertain who to trust. Her Christian faith has maintained her through the loss of her family, but when Mitch Sanderson shows interest, Lena longs to take a chance. Should she open herself up to this man of law and order, a man who imprisons women like her? Or slip quietly back into the shadowed fringe of anonymity?
But choices slip away when Mitch’s friend spews half-truths about Lena, rumors that cost Mitch his new love and possibly the election. Can he find his way to a faith deep enough to love again, and to offer Lena the refuge of his heart?
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!💗
