Throwback Thursday meme is hosted by Renee@It’s Book Talk and is a way to share some of your old favourites as well as sharing books that you want to read that were published over a year ago. You know, the ones waiting patiently on your TBR list while you continue to pile more titles on top of them 🙂 These older books are usually much easier than new releases to get a hold of at libraries and elsewhere. If you have your own Throwback Thursday recommendation feel free to jump on board, you’re welcome to use Renee’s pic as well. If you’d just link back to her @ It’s Book Talk she’d so appreciate it.

Today I’m showcasing a book that I read a few years ago and loved!

In Philadelphia, good girl Kate is dumped by her fiance the day she learns she is pregnant with his child. In New York City, beautiful stay-at-home mom Vanessa is obsessively searching the Internet for news of an old flame. And in San Francisco, Dani, the aspiring writer who can’t seem to put down a book–or a cocktail–long enough to open her laptop, has just been fired… again.

In an effort to regroup, Kate, Vanessa, and Dani retreat to the New Jersey beach town where they once spent their summers. Emboldened by the seductive cadences of the shore, the women being to realize how much their lives, and friendships, have been shaped by the choices they made one fateful night on the beach eight years earlier–and the secrets that only now threaten to surface.

ALL THE SUMMER GIRLS by Meg Donahue is the story of childhood best friends. There’s Kate and Collin, twins who were like night and day.  There is also Dani and Vanessa.  Every summer,  growing up they would all go to Dani’s Dad’s beach house in Avalon New Jersey.

Fast forward eight years, they decide they need to go to the beach again in the hopes of straightening things out in their lives.  Kate gets dumped by her fiancé on the same day as she learns she is pregnant.  Dani has just been fired again. Vanessa is trying to deal with an episode between her husband and a female co worker. She also finds herself reaching out to an old flame. Is it retaliation for what her husband did or is she searching for a piece of her old self?

They all have secrets concerning Collin and the last time they were together at the shore.  Each one of them has been dealing with the grief and guilt in their own way and this trip is going to bring it all to the surface.

ALL THE SUMMER GIRLS is a great beach read but so much more.  I love the story that Meg presents and will highly recommend to all of my reading friends. It grabs you right from the get go and keeps you turning the pages late into the night. I grew up in New Jersey and going to the shore was my favorite summer vacation.  Meg and ALL THE SUMMER GIRLS brought back so many good memories for me.  This is a beautifully written story of best friends and the choices they make.  Is there friendship strong enough to survive the secrets they have held back from each other?  Read it and find out. You won’t be sorry!
